Power Nap is a 50/50 blend of Ethiopia Worka and Decaf Colombia Huila. Learn a simple afternoon brewing routine that keeps flavor high and caffeine low.

Quick answer

Brew Power Nap as a pour-over at a 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio, using water just off the boil and a medium-fine grind. This keeps the cup silky and balanced while giving you a lower-caffeine afternoon option.

Why a half-caf blend changes your afternoon brewing

Power Nap is a pre-roast blend of 50% Ethiopia Worka and 50% Decaf Colombia Huila. Because the caffeine is already diluted at the blend level, you do not need to change your brewing method to make it gentler—you just need to brew it well. Treat it like a regular light-roast coffee and focus on even extraction.

The floral washed Worka brings the top notes, while the natural sugar cane process Colombia adds body and sweetness. That combination can turn muddy if you grind too fine or pour too aggressively, so keep the bed level and the pour gentle.

What to adjust if the cup tastes flat or sharp

If the cup tastes flat or hollow, your grind is likely too coarse or your water too cool. Tighten the grind slightly or use water right off the boil. If it tastes sharp or drying, coarsen the grind a touch or slow your pour. Because this is a blend, small changes in grind and pour speed show up quickly, so change one variable at a time.

Step-by-step Power Nap brewing

  1. Weigh and heat: Weigh 20 g of Power Nap and heat 320 g of water to just off the boil (about 96–98°C). Checkpoint: if your kettle has no thermometer, bring it to a boil and let it sit for 30 seconds.
  2. Set the grind: Grind medium-fine, about the texture of table salt. Start slightly coarser than you would for a single-origin Ethiopian coffee. Mistake to avoid: grinding too fine will slow the drawdown and mute the floral notes.
  3. Rinse and preheat: Rinse the filter with hot water and discard the rinse. Preheat your server or cup. Checkpoint: a cold server drops the brew temperature and flattens the finish.
  4. Bloom: Add 60 g of water, stir gently once, and wait 45 seconds. Mistake to avoid: skipping the bloom can leave the bed uneven and cause channeling.
  5. Pour in stages: Pour in three gentle spirals to 160 g, then 240 g, then 320 g, keeping the water level below the rim. Finish the pour by 2:30. Checkpoint: keep the bed flat; a high, centered pour digs a hole and extracts unevenly.
  6. Let it draw down: Allow the bed to drain fully. The total brew should finish around 3:00–3:30. Mistake to avoid: if it drains much faster than 3:00, your grind is too coarse; if much slower than 3:30, too fine.
  7. Taste and adjust: Cool slightly and taste. For more brightness, coarsen the grind by one click; for more sweetness, tighten it by one click. Checkpoint: change only one variable per brew so you can taste the difference.
